I remember the day I met her. Over the years I’ve fallen in love with her. But it wasn’t always that way. Today she’s the friend who is always there for me. The friend I talk to at all hours of the night. I rant and she listens. I cry and she consoles, I rejoice and she smiles. Do you have a friend like that?
My friend Wisdom
I’m ashamed when I think about the times I ignored her advice. When she gave me a practical solution, and I chose to go my own way.
My way was filled with fumbles and stumbles, yet hers was always a much easier path.
Don’t get me wrong, she lets me know when I’ve made a foolish decision. She’s honest with me because she loves me. She doesn’t suffer fools; in fact, she’s the opposite of foolishness.
I’m sad that people I care about don’t understand our friendship. Some of my friends think she’s a buzzkill. A killjoy. They ask, “What do you see in her?”
Have I mentioned her name yet? I’m sorry, meet my friend Wisdom.
Seriously, she’s the best and she’s the reason why I’ve created the blog BeWiseAndSuccessful.
“Joyful is the person who finds Wisdom…”. Prov 3:13 NLTSE
Over the years I’ve gone to her with my questions because she always has an answer. I can’t ever think of a time she led me astray.
I admit, sometimes I don’t get where she’s coming from. Maybe it’s because I don’t want to. Maybe it’s because I’m not listening. Maybe it’s because I don’t like what I hear.
But she always has something for me. Something that spurs me to make the wiser choice.
She’s helped me in my work, in my finances, with my health, with my family, with my friends, and the list goes on. Here are a couple practical ways she’s made my life more successful:
• Choosing healthy lifestyle options.
• Counseling friends thru marital difficulties.
• Dealing with business partner break-ups.
• Deciding on home purchases.
• Encouraging children through trying times.
• Giving money when there wasn’t much to give.
• Grieving the death of a loved one.
• Making financial decisions about spending and saving.
• Managing difficult clients.
• Providing leadership during times of turmoil.
• Supporting friends who were seriously ill.
What I find so amazing about Wisdom is that she’s relational. Her counsel isn’t just for me; everyone benefits from what she has to say.
I’ve also learned that when I do what she says, the rewards of one good decision flow into other parts of my life. A good business choice will flow into my personal life. Smart financial decisions will flow into my family life. One good decision leads to another good decision.
